Lis Bernhardt is a doctoral student at the UNC School of Nursing and a practicing neuroscience nurse. The focus of her research centers on mood disorders in the perinatal population and alternative methods of treatment. Lis is currently exploring how the transition to motherhood affects neural systems associated with self-regulation and reward processing in the immediate postpartum period. Previously, she has coordinated numerous research projects at New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University Medical Center and Duke University Medical Center between 2005 to 2014. During this time, Lis contributed to published findings alluding to the safety and efficacy of brain stimulation technologies as viable neuropsychiatric treatment options. She has a B.A. in Neuroscience from Mount Holyoke College and a BSN from Duke University School of Nursing.
